In the End

Linkin Park is one of my favorite alternative bands and they were a very popular alternative band for the time. One of their most popular songs is “In The End.” It is one of my favorite Linkin Park songs. Some of the more heavy rock and hard rock fans might not like it because it doesn’t have much of the heavier instruments in it. However I love the lyrics of this song, I know that Linkin Park isn’t know to have positive lyrics but for High School this was the band I had on the most. I related to them a lot. I have the feeling that there are a lot of fans that would agree with me on that. Their music was for sure animated with a green screen. When I got back and watch it you can tell their CGI isn’t as good as today’s because you can tell that the video used a green screen. I still enjoy the music video even though it wasn’t the best animated video. One of the things that I liked with the singing was how loud and how well they could hold certain lyrics to make it stand out and emphasis them.

Smells like Teen spirit

This song is one of my favorite songs. I heard this song when I was younger from my dad. My neighbor plays this song all the time when he is working in the garage. I would say this song could be a timeless song. The reason I say that is because the song is unique from the other songs that are played at that time and it is super popular so it could be played for lots of generations to come. I am pretty sure most people can identify this song within just a few seconds of it starting to play if not almost instantly. Even when I burn this song out after a few months it feels like a fresh start and it sounds even better then when I left it. I love the guitar in this song. I don't know why it sticks out so much but it does and I love it. With how fast he plays the guitar is really shows how skilled he was. Even with this song being five minutes long I do not notice it being that long because I enjoy it so much. By the way this song has 1.3 billion plays on youtube and 1.2 billion plays on spotify.

I wanna be sedated

This week I chose to listen to I wanna be sedated by Ramones. I know my parents loved this song because they had this song on some of the videos that they made on CDs for different trips. I knew the song as soon as it started so I obviously listen to it a lot when I was younger. I love that it was a song about drugs and I never knew that. I didn't know what sedated meant so I looked it up and it meant "calm (someone) or make them sleep by administering a sedative drug.” It seems like the whole song is about how they always wanted to be sedated. Because every part aside from the chorus. Talks about how he wants to be sedated. It is repeated in the song a lot. I enjoy the pacing of this song and how the little guitar solo. Even though it is a short song it works in its favor because it can be looped and you wouldn’t notice it too much. It also might have helped it be played on the radio more because it was short so they might be enticed to play it more.

Stairway to heaven

Stairway to heaven is such an amazing song. Most people that you talk to will know Stairway to Heaven and if they don't know it by name they should know it by listening to it. If someone does not know the stairway to heaven then they must live under a rock. What I find really funny is that there is a meme about stairway to heaven that it is played so much that if you went to play stairway to heaven in a guitar store they would come and stop you. If you’ve seen the movie Wayne’s world then you’d understand what I am talking about. If you have not seen it, in one of the scenes they were in a guitar store and he starts to play the first three notes of Stairway and he stops him and points to a sign that says no stairway. Then the guy responds with No stairway, denied. It was a great scene. I really like how rock in this time had some great guitar solos and it really showed how much work these guitar players put into playing the guitar. For most people a lot of people who want to learn to play guitar want to learn to play that beginning part of Stairway and its so well known that most people will recognize the start of it.

Hotel Califorina

Even as an alternative rock fan I love this song and knew it right away. What is cool with this time is this is where a lot of really good guitar solos really shined in my eyes and the people who played them at this time perfected the art of playing the guitar. This song is really long at about 6 minutes and 30 seconds. I wish that they had done a version where it was a little shorter, but it is still a great song. I also found it funny when this song became a meme these last few years. I think this will be a classic that should not go away for a long time. What is great about this song is even though this song is from back in 1976 it does not feel out of place today. One of the things that I enjoy about this song is it is very relaxing. The starting guitar solo is very soft and smooth. The singing is very soft but I like that it is at a good pace because it is not too slow or too fast. The tone of his voice is very fitting for this song.

Eleanor Rigby

 

Eleanor Rigby is very interesting to me. It is one of those songs where if you did not focus on the lyrics, it sounds happy but when you read the lyrics and listen to it closely you can see the themes of depression that is in the song. The different lyrics I'm seeing this in are: “Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name nobody came Father McKenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave No one was saved” One of the things that the song does a lot of is having a negative outlook on things. So, this quote is talking about how the lady died and no one cared about her and did not show up to the funeral. Then the pasture who buried her did not care to much about burying her. I notice through a lot of the verses take this negative look at these people and saying how no one cares about them and that they are lonely. As far as the music style goes this song reminds me of crooning simple because the voice seems close to the microphone and they voice is softer.

Sh-Boom

I don't know why this song is so familiar to me, but I know I've listened to it before. I enjoy that it is a fast-paced song. One of the things I don’t like with Jazz is how sad it sounds because they use a deeper tone of voice. But with this song, it doesn’t seem as sad. It doesn’t sound like a romantic song, but it does talk about how if the girl says yes that her life could be a dream which at least makes it a romantic song. When I listen to it without paying too much attention to the lyrics it totally doesn’t sound like a love song. The lyrics sound like this guy is in love with this girl and that he is going to ask her to marry her. The reason I think that is because of him using a lot of pet names throughout the song. He also says if you would let me spend my whole life lovin’ you which normally if you are wanting to spend the rest of your life with someone it is for marriage. Which is obviously him wanting to marry that girl.  I enjoy that it has multiple singers in the song. It gives it a better range in my eyes.
